High Frequency Words

High Frequency Words are words that are not phonetic, they can’t be sounded out. Children simply have to learn them.

Here is a list of the 100 HFW, then the next  100 HFW in the English language.

Can you read them all?

How many can you spell correctly?

  1. All words are phonetic!! There is no need for sight words if using decodable books. @spelfabet, @susangodsland have info on this!!!

    1. I disagree. But further, my blog is for parents of primary school children and their understanding of phonics is developmental. Some words are ‘tricky words’ at one period of their learning but won’t be later on as their knowledge of phonemes develops.
